Available Courses

  • This is a one-semester course designed to inform students how their individual choices directly influence occupational goals, future earnings potential and overall financial stability.  Students will study the following consumer topics during the semester:  banking services, budgeting, credit, saving, investing, consumer protection, insurance, and taxes.  Upon completion of the course, students will have a sound foundation for making informed personal financial decisions.

  • This first-year accounting course presents a thorough background in the basic accounting procedures used to operate a business. It also serves as a sound foundation for employment in office-related jobs and preparation for Computerized Accounting II or post-secondary business courses.

  • This is a one-year course designed to help students learn how to use the computer as a tool to complete daily tasks for personal use, educational use, and future job preparation. Students will learn how to effectively use the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office 2007 package which includes Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheet), Access (database), PowerPoint (presentation graphics), Publisher (desktop publishing), and Outlook (information management) applications as well as how to effectively search for and gather information using Internet Explorer. In addition, students will be introduced to information regarding computer ethics as well as information that will help them make informed decisions when purchasing computer hardware or software. Students will also learn how to use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). If time permits, students will be introduced to the voice recognition capabilities of Microsoft Office 2007.

  • This is a one-semester course designed to introduce students to desktop publishing terminology, graphic design techniques, and principles of page layout and design.  Desktop Publishing will assist students in the production of professional publications.  Students will be using Adobe InDesign CS2 software.  Hardware used in the class includes scanners and digital cameras.

  • The purpose of In-House Training (IHT) is to simulate a business environment by utilizing live production work, so students will experience the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that accompany working in a business setting.

  • This is a year-long yearbook production course. Students will be responsible for all aspects of yearbook publication. Students will work under the leadership of student editors in the following areas: writing, photography, advertising sales, page design, budgeting, and deadline requirements. Students will have the opportunity to attend yearbook workshops, compete in regional and national contests, meet with representatives of yearbook publishing companies, learn word processing and desktop publishing, and practice various marketing techniques. Students may participate in yearbook production for additional years and may apply for editor positions as they gain additional skills and experience.
